PetDesk App Review
I reviewed the PetDesk app because it is a hub for my dog’s
grooming, boarding, and veterinary services. I like this app because it is
user-friendly. You can make appointments with your pet’s providers through one
convenient app. It allows you to set reminders for vaccinations, annual exam
appointments, and medication schedules. You can set profiles for each animal to
differentiate between pets when requesting appointments or to set reminders if
you have multiple pets.
It is straightforward to use the app. At the bottom are buttons
for home, pets, providers, appointments, and messages. On the home page, you
can request an appointment, which takes you to the provider’s section to select
which provider you wish to schedule an appointment with. After you have
scheduled the appointment, it appears in the appointments section to keep track
and allows your provider to communicate anything needed for the appointment.
The message section enables providers to send messages that inform of any times
out of their scheduled hours that they will be closed or if they are having
giveaways.
I like the design of the app. The homepage is nice in that you can
select a profile picture, and the header has a visually appealing design that
is animal related. The home page includes many articles that have relevance to
pet owners. The pet’s section is great because it has your pet profiles with
their names and ages, and you can select their profile pictures. I also like
that it keeps track of their medical exam history and prescriptions so that you
can reference the app anytime you need a reminder on when and how to administer
their medicine.
Something I wish they had done differently is the articles on the
homepage. There are far too many, and there is no organization. They should
archive a majority and have a separate, searchable section that would allow
them to be organized more efficiently. Also, my veterinary clinic recently
switched to its own app, so my PetDesk no longer allows me to request
appointments. It still keeps track of the prescriptions, but probably because I
haven’t had to refill since they switched. I can also see his history, but I
think that is because we haven’t had an appointment since the change.
I find it frustrating that when I request an appointment with my
dog’s groomer or to board, it sends me to the PetDesk website, not the service
provider’s website. I also wish there was an option to message the providers,
not just request appointments or refills. My dog has allergies and recurring
ear infections, so he has a couple of different prescriptions and ear wash that
we get from his vet. Without the ability to message his vet, we had to call
them to put in a request for the ear wash. My vet’s app now has a complete form
you can fill out to request any refill, including the ear wash.
Overall, though, I enjoy the PetDesk app. I think it provides an
excellent service to pet owners for free. I am sure that the clinics that use
PetDesk pay for their service, and that’s how they get their revenue. I
appreciate that it is a free service for the pet owner, especially when the
services cost as much as they do!
